Questions & AnswersIn this issue, we'll focus on a question regarding Call Forwarding and Call Routing.

Q: What’s the difference between forwarding calls and routing calls?

A: Both features allow you to automatically send an incoming call to another number, but Call Routing (a C3 IP and C4 IP feature) enables you to define more intricate routes such as ringing multiple devices simultaneously or sequentially and controlling the route based on incoming number and/or time of day.

When you have call forwarding enabled, incoming calls will be automatically forwarded to the designated number without ringing your primary line.

However, with call routing, which is also referred to as “Find-me/Follow-me”, you can designate customized treatment for incoming calls. Calls can be routed to your mobile device, another colleague or be sent straight to voicemail. Incoming calls ring on your office and mobile devices simultaneously or sequentially, and you even can define different routes based on time of day. For instance, let’s say you are waiting for important information from your paralegal, but you are heading into court. Using call routing, you can send all of your calls to voicemail, except the call from your paralegal. That call will ring directly to your cell phone. With call routing, you’ll never miss an important call again!
